Bauhaus Jewelry Design
This week I was very excited to be invited (live!) on BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours programme to talk about Bauhaus interiors. Tying in with the 100th anniversary of the influential design movement this year, I followed after Deyan Sudjic, director of London’s Design Museum, to explain how Bauhaus design could still fit in today’s homes.

The style that emerged from the school’s teachings inspired jewelry designers to use stainless steel, chrome, and nickel, either alone or with embellishments in glass, plastic, and/or enamel. Designs were austere and geometric in form. Her line of contemporary jewelry made me first think of Bauhaus design, and especially the work of Moholy-Nagy. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and made from recycled sterling silver, various textiles, and wood.
